Sections

The 22 sections of the DGOU represent specialised sub-fields of orthopaedics and trauma surgery. Their task is to further develop those areas.

The Society for Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery (AGA) is Europe’s largest specialist society for arthroscopy.

This section deals with imaging methods that are of importance for orthopaedics and trauma surgery.

Leading orthopaedic and trauma surgeons as well as scientists deal with endoprosthetic issues in the Endoprosthetics Working Group (AE).

The German Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (DAF) deals with the diagnosis and therapy of diseases of the foot and ankle area.

Basic research

The Basic Research section deals with the development of clearly defined research goals in basic but not in clinical research.

The German Society for Hand Surgery (DGH) deals with all kinds of surgery of the hand and wrist area.

The German Hip Society (DGH) deals with all diseases and injuries of the hip joint and perlvis.

The German speaking Association of Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeons (VKO) aims at scientific support as well as education and advanced training in the field of paediatric orthopaedics including non surgical as well as surgical treatment procedures. 

The German Knee Society (DKG) aims to promote research, specialisation and advanced education of doctors and others to treat injuries and diseases of the knee joint.


The aim of the Bone and Soft Tissue Infections Section is to take an interdisciplinary approach to addressing the problem of musculoskeletal infections.

The Association for reconstruction and extension of extremities is dealing with the Study and Application of the ring fixateur, which was invented by Gavriil Abramovich Ilizarov.

Osteology Section

The aim of the Osteology Section is to promote research, teaching and patient care relating to diseases of and changes in bone metabolism and associated diseases at all stages of life.

The Work Group Osteosynthesis (AO Trauma Germany) mainly targets on optimizing surgical fracture stabilization.

German-speaking medical Society for Paraplegia (DMGP) deals with the comprehensive rehabilitation of paraplegics.

Rehabilitation – Physical therapy

This section represents all fields regarding rehabilitation after diseases and injuries of the musculoskeletal system.

Prevention

This section deals with the prevention of injuries and diseases relevant for orthopaedics and trauma surgery.

German Society of Orthopaedic Rheumatology (DGORh) is concerned with the effects of rheumatic diseases on the musculoskeletal system. 

The Interdisciplinary Society for Orthopaedic, Trauma Surgery and General Pain Therapy (IGOST) promotes scientific findings in orthopaedic pain therapy.

German Association of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (DVSE) is concerned with diseases and injuries to the shoulder and elbow joint.

German-Austrian-Swiss Society for Orthopaedic Traumatologic Sports Medicine (GOTS) is concerned with the treatment of sports related injuries. 

The Association of Technical Orthopaedics (VTO) is working in the field of protheses, supply of orthoses and aids, orthopaedic footwear and rehabiltation. 

Spinal column

This section is concerned with all medical aspects of the spine.
